Confinement Spaces (2021-) Media installation, video, print
Confinement Spaces is an existential portrait of my time under COVID-19 isolation in the UAE. It is a snapshot of six months of a series of constraints - neighborhood, city, country, then the obsolescence of the technology used. During this time, I scanned over 80 sites in the Emirates, and make an ongoing series of 3D collages as a reflection of the fractures the world felt under the COVID-19 pandemic.
Googled Earth (w/Negin Ehtesabian)
Googled Earth is an ongoing collective work with my wife, Negin Ehtesabian (our Collective NPTProjects) Originally commissioned fo the 2020 SIKKA festival in Dubai, Googled Earth began as a project when we visited each other's country (USA/Iran) through Google Earth VR - the only way we can be there for now. We shared times from our life in the other's forbidden country, and are doing reflective works (drawings, paintings, video, weavings).

Sentient Calligraphy is the result of the processing of the images from the Calligraphy Project using AI-based Generative Adversarial Networks to attempt to find patterns in the Calligraphy Project, and to generate new forms of abstract calligraphy. The images from the Calligraphy Project were processed as images and animations.
The Calligraphy Project [256 Asemic Paintings, A3, digital print] (2018+)
In working with robotic drawing methods for much of 2017 onwards, in 2018 I decided to do a series of 256 automatic calligraphy works based on my training in the Japanese language and interest in asemic (without meaning) writing. Over eight months, I painted over 256 pieces on my iPad, made as a preparation for the Sentient Calligraphy projects, where this work would be fed into AI-based image creation software (GANs).
GAN Carpet Project/Forbidden [Open project, Unique Jacquard Tapestries [80"x60"]] (2019-)
This project is the tapestry sister project of Sentient Calligraphy, in which 1500 azeri, Armenian, and Persian carpets were fed into a Generative Adversarial Network to determin patterns and explore new compositions. The results are Jacquard woven at 80 by 60 inches.
